Michael Chang serves as the Chairman of the Executive Board and has a duty to preside over periodic Executive Board meetings. The Chairman can call special meetings of the Board to address matters that require Board attention. He also serves on the Executive Board as a representative for Lifetime Members.

Dennis K. Thomas is our immediate past President and currently the Vice Chairman of the Executive Board. He’s officially our 11th National President and 2nd International President. The Chairman is responsible for supervising formal assessments of the Board of Directors’ operations. He interacts with the Chairman and International President works to establish the agenda of Board meetings.

He also serves as the past National Presidents representative on the Executive Board.

The International President’s office is responsible for the management of the administrative body of the Conclave, The Directorate. He also serves as a member of the Executive Board.

Founder Barry H. Hampton currently serves as an Executive Board member and is the Board representative for Founders. He also served as our sixth National past president. His ongoing contributions to the Fellowship are unparalleled.

Barry H. Hampton was born on May 4, 1942, in Montclair, New Jersey. He went to Baltimore, Maryland, in the early 1960s where he attended Morgan State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1965. He served as the president of the Baltimore Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove in the late 1960s and as national president in the 1980s.

Hampton helped to establish Groove because of the camaraderie and fellowship among the founders, a camaraderie that still exists today. His fondest Groove memories are networking and fellowshipping with the brothers.

In 1965, Hampton began work toward his Master of Science degree in Psychology at Howard University, while raising a family and working as a social worker for Baltimore City government. In that capacity, he worked on the street corners of East Baltimore for three years, helping at-risk youths who were beginning to leave school early and fall out of mainstream society.

In 1968, Hampton went to work in the Baltimore plant of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, serving as a supervisor of Testing, Training, and Affirmative Action in the Industrial Relations Department. In 1975, he was transferred to the company’s home office in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and held several positions there, such as EEO Affirmative Action specialist, college relations recruiter, personnel assistant, and program supervisor. Among his accomplishments while at Bethlehem’s home office was the completion of an advanced program at the Harvard University School of Business. He worked at the company until 1986.

In January of 1986, Hampton teamed up with others to help form STAR Associates, Inc., a human resources development and training consulting firm located in Baltimore’s downtown inner-harbor. In addition to serving on the boards of the Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce (GBBCC) and SelfPride, Inc., he has served as the past president of the Business League of Baltimore, Inc.

Hampton is married to Dr. Theresa Mitchell-Hampton. He has three children—Kathie, Barry, and John—five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He enjoys jogging, walking, traveling, and working around the house.

One of Hampton’s lifetime dreams is to utilize the skills he has learned over the years to conduct a retreat for the leaders and the members of Groove Phi Groove.

The International President’s office is responsible for the management of the administrative body of the Conclave, The Directorate. He also serves as a member of the Executive Board.

The First Vice President’s role is to assist the President in the performance of his duties. He presides during the absence of the President and serves as an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee.

The Second Vice President assist the President in the performance of his duties. The Second Vice President serves as the chairman of the Undergraduate activities committee and is a member of the Executive and Finance Committees.

The Treasurer has the duty to account for all monies of the Fellowship. He provides receipts and pays all authorized expenses for the organization. Periodic reports in writing on the financial status of the Fellowship are made by the Treasurer that shows fund amounts received, amounts paid-out, and funds on hand.

The Treasurer presents the annual budget of estimated income and expenditures to the Conclave for approval. He serves as chairman of the finance committee and serves as a member of the Executive committee.

The Executive Director is responsible for the administration of the International Office.

The Executive Director maintains official records and manages our Fellowship’s business activity and partnerships.

Ronald Haggerty serves as General Counsel for the organization. The general counsel provides executive management with advice on organizational strategies and their implementation. He manages the legal function and obtains & oversees the work of outside counsel.

The Secretary and those he directs record minutes from all official meetings, including the annual National Conclave and assemblies of the Executive Board of Directors. He also maintains membership data and other information of the International Office under the direction of the Executive Director.

The Director of Membership is the chairman of the membership committee. The Membership Committee develops, optimizes, and implements the Fellowship’s membership programs to facilitate the growth in both graduate and undergraduate membership. To fulfill this purpose, the committee works with chapters and regions to orient new members, and identify opportunities for recruitment.

Toomage Abza is the Publications Editor and is responsible for the publication of the International periodical, the Sword & Spear.

The Director for Information Systems is the Chairman of the Information Technology Committee of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated.

A highly experienced IT Professional with a record of developing and supporting successful IT projects and solutions with a wide range of applications and technologies. He is responsible for the management and deployment of the organization’s technology assets and resources. This includes technical support for the international website and administrative responsibility for the group’s cloud and social media services.

The Secretary and those he directs record minutes from all official meetings, including the annual National Conclave and assemblies of the Executive Board of Directors. He also maintains membership data and other information of the International Office under the direction of the Executive Director.
The Parliamentarian assists the Fellowship in the interpretation of the organization’s Constitution and By-Laws. He also serves as chairman of the Constitution Committee.

Reverend Dr. Stephen Webb is the Chaplain and Chairman of the Interfaith Committee of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc.

He is the overseer responsible for the spiritual component of the Fellowship. He provides pastoral care for our members and their families.

Ayse Miner is Director of Events Planning and chairman of the Events Planning Committee. The Events Planning Committee convenes periodically for purposes of planning, coordinating, and executing all international events, including but not limited to Conclaves and undergraduate conventions.

Jamille Jones is the Chairman of the History Committee. The committee convenes periodically for the purposes of documenting and memorializing both the notable events in the history of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship and biographical information of the Founders, past National Presidents and other members. The History Committee is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of any historical writings, artifacts, or memorabilia maintained at the International Headquarters.

Kasna Maat Ra (Jeffrey D. Vinson) is Director of Community Service and chairman of the Community Service Committee. The committee meets periodically to develop and implement international community service and outreach activity on behalf of the Fellowship.

The Director of Public Relations is responsible for the management of the Fellowship’s communication with stakeholders and the media. This includes the management of communications to communities and nonprofits.

As the newly elected Regional Director for The Atlantic Region, I greet you with great humbleness and hope.

Our region has historically been a staple in our great organization, and with your help, we will continue this great legacy. The path that we’ve all chosen in Groove Phi land has given us an opportunity to serve our communities with the principles established by our 14 honorable founders. Each day we must strive for excellence in the name of Groove to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and continue to be that “everlasting light” that illuminated the path for the next generation of black men.

As we prepare for the 2016 National Conclave that is being hosted by the Charlotte Graduate Chapter, I ask each of you to rededicate yourselves to this organization and the Constitution that binds us. In these turbulent times, we must fortify our organization structurally and financially. We must be proactive in the initiatives that we embark on as well as conduct ourselves with the highest of ethical standards.

During my term, I would like each chapter and member to focus on the service that we are providing to our communities. Through service, we will be able to put our purpose in action and lead by example.

The time for us is now, but each of us has to make this choice on our own. As Regional Director, I pledge to be there in the trenches as we fight these battles, together. I pledge to represent our organization at the ultimate levels. I pledge to give Groove Phi Groove by all and in return, I challenge each of us to do the same. I challenge us to bring something to the table. I challenge us to become active members, as described in our constitution. I challenge us to make a difference in our communities.
